Holy Daikon Batman!

I was very lucky to have lots of helpers around the farm today.  Emily decided to brave the rain to keep me company during this morning's early CSA harvest.

Woman's best friend for sure.

Seamus joined us towards the end still in his jammies but otherwise all decked out for the weather.

He was thrilled with the size of the daikon radish we harvested!

Once Liam got up and at it, he helped me harvest carrots, cabbage, onions and beets for today's main chore of canning Sandy Stew.

The wheelbarrow stage of stew.
Sandy was the name we gave to the first deer that Ian ever hunted and so venison stew in this house has been forever christened in her honour.  Sandy Stew is a fan favourite.  The boys prefer it over Zoodles and Kraft Dinner.  Shocking, I know.   All this to say, we make a lot of it when all the ingredients are ready to harvest and it is always the first thing we finish in the pantry.

OMG the hair!
This 1976 classic is the best cookbook for a farmer EVER.

Thanks to pressure canning these jars are shelf stable, so they don't take up room in our freezers.  Moreover, they are super easy to dump and reheat for a quick, nutritious, and delicious meal.

P.S. A gigantic "Thank You" to Ian for stepping in after work to clean up the very messy kitchen and then staying up late do the pressure canning.  I so appreciate the helping hand.  You are the best!
