One for the Books

We are happy to see 2022 in the rear view mirror and are looking forward to starting 2023. As all good things must come to an end, we spent the afternoon saying goodbye to Small Pony Barrel Works in its original location. It is with mixed feelings that we see our favourite local brewery moving to Dunrobin. We took some goodbye photos, had a few last sips, and escaped the truly yucky weather outside with one final visit to the brewery in its Kanata location.

While 2022 was certainly full of both fantastically fun and truly abyssal moments, we are happy to be moving on. Our family road trip to Gaspésie, my hiking trip to Newfoundland,  my first peer reviewed publication, an incredibly successful CSA program, our purchase of a real fishing boat, and winning my first grant as a principal investigator were among our highlights from 2022. Losing GG and our family friend Mike Apostoliuk, the whole family getting COVID, more than half our bee hives dying from pesticide spraying, and dealing with some incredibly difficult work situations, were among the many challenges we faced in the past year. No year will ever be perfect but it is nice to think about the fresh start a new year brings.

Happy New Year everyone! May 2023 be your - and our - best year yet. Best wishes from all of us here at Gael Glen Farm and Apiary.

Winning Christmas

Family time continued today with an afternoon visit to the Uncles' farm for supper. We sadly had to leave Daddy and Ali at home since Ali was feeling barfy but we had fun nonetheless. We got to visit with their turkeys and geese and hike on their trail through the cedar forest. Dinner was a delicious feast of rotisserie homegrown duck, carrots, potatoes, and salad with a twist on GG's cheesecake (which Uncle Kyle renamed Cherry Yum Yum) for dessert. It was all very yum yum, indeed! Thanks for hosting us and for all the incredible gifts. Seamus received his much desired remote control car and was so overwhelmed with happiness that he teared up upon opening it. It seems that the uncles won Christmas, lol.

Under the Bright December Sky

We were sad to see cousins William and Elise head home but we were comforted by the arrival of cousins Grayson, Abigail, and Logan. The fun continued under the bright blue sky with a campfire, hot dog roasting, s'more making, and snowman building! Family time during the holidays makes for a perfect day.

Mad skills

The holiday merry making continued today with a visit to the bowling alley. Liam put us all to shame with his mad bowling skills and very high score!

Cousin Crew

The Cousin Crew had a day of grand adventures and matching shirts! These are the memories that will last forever - this year had been officially dubbed the year of the NERF wars!

Family Time

We are grateful to have our family down to visit us at the farm for the holidays. We celebrated with our big Christmas meal tonight - turkey and stuffing with all the trimmings.

The boys are thrilled to spend time with their cousins. Everyone even helped do the farm chores!

A Gingerbread Snowflake for the Big Guy in Red

We are ready for Christmas! Our baking is done, Santa's cookie is in place, and we are ready to celebrate.

We rang in Christmas Eve 2022 with a fancy dinner and a glass of wine (for the grown ups). We are ready for Santa Claus to come to town!

Snow Day

Pecky Becky would like to announce that it is snowing! A lot! The schools are closed today due to the incoming storm and we had lots of help shoveling all the gross, slushy snow.

Ian did a lot of snow blowing too before everything freezes up tonight. It's some crazy weather we are having!
