Strawberry Crooked Biscuit

It would be too boring to make a traditional strawberry shortcake. #basic

Instead, we kept life at the cottage interesting by trying to bake the more unconventional "strawberry tall biscuits".  Except...I am still perfecting my biscuits (this was a great excuse to practice), so this batch turned out more crooked than tall; kind of "leaning tower of Pisa"-esque.  At least they were cooked in the middle this time.

Our biscuits might have had an unusual stature, but you can never go wrong with fresh picked organic strawberries and real vanilla whipped cream.  Thanks Fat Chance Farmstead in Harrowsmith!

The boys were very helpful in doing the grunt work to make this treat a reality.  They were great at strawberry picking...until they got full.  Then they "forgot" the rules and began picking the white strawberries. Ew!

The last time we took them picking Seamus ate so many strawberries that he puked in the patch.  This time he promised to only eat five berries.  I think he ate more like 50 strawberries (gluttony or trouble counting, who can tell?) but at least he managed to hold himself together.  All the berries stayed firmly down his hatch this time.

Strawberry season may be coming to an end for the bigger producers but our strawberries on the farm are just beginning.  At least it feels like they are just beginning because up until now the squirrels and chipmunks have called first dibs on the ripe berries and it is only recently that enough strawberries are ready at once for us to get a handful!
