A Rodent House Guest

Rodents are generally not welcomed as house guests here on Gael Glen Farm, though I did have a soft spot for Gus the Garage Mouse.  However, we have made an exception for Jack and Clara's hamster, Nugget, whom we will be hamster-sitting while they are on summer holidays in Newfoundland.

Seamus started the afternoon enthralled by Nugget.  Much to Ian's chagrin (he is petrified of the hamster escaping into the walls), we put Nugget in his plastic play sphere and he rolled himself jollily around the kitchen for a good half hour.

In hindsight this might be a long journey for a hamster.  He collapsed in exhaustion upon his return to his cage.  He could not have been that tired though because he perked right up out of a dead sleep when we put some cucumber peels into his food dish.

He immediately exited his green cave, scooped them up, returned to his cave and barricaded himself inside with his feast.  He remained like that for close to nine hours.

By this point the boys had long given up on him deciding that he was, in fact, pretty boring.  Hopefully he recovers overnight enough to want to go for another sphere journey tomorrow - that is by far his funniest trick.
