A Maple Run

In an effort to tire out our seemingly tireless toddlers, Grandpa suggested taking them on a maple sap adventure.  It was a beautiful day for a hike through the forest.

The great thing about going on forest adventures with Grandpa is that you have a built in tour guide.

We hiked past an old mica mine.  It is now a frozen pond.

We also walked up an old railway line.  It was decommissioned a very long time ago and it is now just a clear path through the woods.

As anticipated we found some maple trees that had been tapped.

Soon after, we located Mr. Paul our maple syrup making neighbour.  He kindly showed the boys his barrels of frozen sap and explained how his evaporator works.  The boys were enthralled.

Upon completion of our hike, Grandpa treated the boys to roasted hot dogs and marshmallows on an open fire.

Life does not get any better than outdoor cottage adventures followed by fire roasted marshmallows on sunny spring days.
