Happy Honey Day

It's honey day!
Do I have to come out?
As always it was a messy, sticky experience but thankfully we had lots of help, no one got stung and the bees did not manage to steal back the honey like last year!

Thanks to Kerry, Jen and Mario for all their help.  It is certainly easier to wrangle bees and children at the same time with experienced helpers.  We did a good job at keeping the bees out of the house, the children in the house and we even got all the honey out of the frames and into the jars.  What a process!

This is the thickest honey we have ever gotten.
Incredible!

Now, we can work on preparing the bees for winter.  Feed and medicate and then feed, feed, feed!

While the bees are eating, we are eating too.  There is nothing like fresh honey straight from the hive smeared on homemade whole wheat toast or drizzled atop creamy Greek yogurt.  Yum!

Okay, this was worth getting up for!

As the sun sets on this sticky Saturday, I am grateful for
family, friends and this year's great harvest of liquid gold.

Happy Honey Day everyone!

Arr!  I am a honey pirate!
