Heat Induced Hunger

It was a scorcher of a day.  As tempting as it was to hide inside in the air conditioning all day, the kids still needed to move.  Idle boys equal trouble so out we went to brave the heat.  We got an early start watering the gardens (again!) and then taking a long, slow walk through our neighbourhood.  Even with a slow pace and lots of water, Alistair was pretty wilted with the heat and chose to ride in the stroller most of the way.  Even Seamus was walking his bike by the end.

We munched on some wild blackberries along our route.

We perked up after a much needed and very refreshing swim in Mr. Jim and Ms. Margo's backyard pool.  The boys did lots of jumps, lots of snorkelling and had lots of fun.  They also very much enjoyed Ms. Margo's freezies when we got out.  We are so lucky to have such generous neighbours.

Our afternoon was spent indoors with Alistair napping and Liam and Seamus book learning.  It was a bit of a tough go with the homeschooling today.  The combination of the heat and our active morning tired the big boys out and they were jealous that Ali got to sleep.  However, we persevered.  I am impressed with how much information they have retained.  Not only does Seamus remember his alphabet but he is starting to sound out words on his own to write whole sentences independently!  I am amazed.  I hope all his hard work translates to French without too much difficulty when he heads back to school in September.

Dinner was BBQ since we had no interest at all in heating up the house with any kind of indoor cooking.  It turns out that Alistair is a big fan of BBQ'd chicken drumsticks and he could not get enough of the sweet and juicy corn on the cob.  This tiny kid ate enough for three adults!

The other two boys absolutely devoured the fresh tomato and feta salad I threw together.  I am so excited that tomato season is finally here!  Salads just got a whole lot easier.

I guess hot days can really make you hungry as well as thirsty!
