Seamus' perfect day started with a warm cinnamon bun from the Carp Bakery.
Then we were off to the Canadian Science and Technology Museum thanks to an Ingenium pass from the library. The big draw here was the gigantic steam trains but Seamus also loved the dancing skeletons, the interactive light display, the chicken goggles and the light house.
Next up was lunch - chicken fingers and french fries, of course. It was our first time inside a restaurant in two years! Oh St. Hubert, I missed you.
Mooney's Bay Beach was our next stop for a long afternoon of play structures, sand trench digging and swimming. Watching Seamus spend hours swimming back and forth with his mask and snorkel reminded me so much of my Dad. He was like a miniature Grandpa.
We braved downtown Ottawa for dinner. Seamus' choice was Hawaiian pizza from Milano's.
We visited the Lego store in Rideau Centre because it was the closest thing I could think of to satisfy his request to go to a "Lego museum". It sufficed.
Seamus enjoyed visiting the Peace Tower - he did not remember ever seeing it before - and we discussed the memorial to the residential school children surrounding the Centennial Flame.
We visited the war memorial and the tomb of the unknown soldier and talked about their significance too.
Then Seamus decided we should check out the Rideau Canal Locks by hiking down the million steps to the Ottawa River, so we did that too.
Our last stop of Day of Seamus was for Beaver Tails in the Byward Market. Seamus did not remember ever trying one and was very much looking forward to this treat. Unfortunately, he hated it. He took one bite and nope. I think he was quite full and very tired by this point, which might have played a part in his reaction - I mean who doesn't like Beaver Tails?! - but, oh well. This is not a tragedy - a Beaver Tail for me even though I wasn't planning on eating one. At least we only bought one - it might have been a tragedy if I'd had to try to eat two!
On the drive home, Seamus declared that (even with the Beaver Tail disaster) today rated a 15 out of 10. Not mathematically sound, but high praise nonetheless. Now it is time for us both to crawl into bed and never get out. Snore, snore, double snore.
Thank goodness tomorrow is Daddy's Day of Liam. Mama needs a break!
