We got a very early start to a very long day in the kitchen. It was not even 8 am and we were already crushing last night's grape harvest - a messy, messy business. I think this is precisely why the boys love to use the food mill so much!
Daddy was very busy today working and checking in on us, yet he still found time to voice his ire at the sorry state of our rural internet and its ramifications of limiting options for our children's education. His op ed in our community newspaper is very well written and worth a read - you can find it here on Page 5.
Meanwhile on the farmstead, the boys and I canned nine jars of green tomatoes which will be perfect for making fried green tomatoes later in the year.
It was nice to get another few things checked off our list today but there is still lots to do tomorrow: harvesting one CSA basket and preserving apples, plums and potatoes are on the agenda. We are trying to keep really on top of the canning because with home schooling starting on Thursday, we will soon have to split our time between farm fun and book fun. Balancing everything should be easy, right? Right. It's all good...except our internet, of course. It sucks.
