Today the boys went on their inaugural bike ride of 2021. Alistair and I strolled along behind them. I use "strolled" loosely as walking with a toddler goes at a snail's pace.
Ali wanted to touch everything - the snowbanks, the muddy road shoulder, the pebbles...I drew the line at the soggy dog poop. He was furious at being denied the poop and refused to move another inch.
The reward for his misplaced tenacity was to be buckled into the backpack and carried for the remainder of the walk. If a baby can be outraged, Alistair certainly was. He screamed in my ear the entire way home.
Whilst this afternoon was certainly an exercise in patience, it was most definitely not exercise in any other sense.
