Snoring by 6

The boys and I decided that today was a good day for an adventure.  We hopped in the van and headed to Foley Mountain Conservation Area in Westport.

And we're off!

In the gorgeous March sunshine we hiked a fantastic 6.5 km (2.5 hr) loop that took us past frozen waterfalls, huge boulders that Liam swore looked like a giant face, and amazing icicle sculptures.

We hiked along the shoreline for part of the loop and the boys were mesmerized by the otherworldly groaning of the frozen lake.  It is such a strange sound and so loud!

Most of the trail was pretty icy making it slow going but in the melted parts the boys must have tripped over a dozen rocks each.  I guess they are used to the snowy paths being pretty even and so will have to learn to step over the rocks and tree roots when hiking in the summer.

It was a fabulous day.  I did not need to rock anyone to sleep tonight - they were all snoring by 6 pm (that could be the title of a Magic Treehouse book - lol).  Happy Monday!
