Spay Day

On top of Charlie being sick, today was Ava's spay day.  I trucked her off to the vet's office for her surgery bright and early this morning.  Thankfully the procedures (spay and gastropexy) both went well and she was ready for pick up by mid-afternoon.  She was feeling a bit dopey upon arrival back at the farm which made administering her post-op medication and manoeuvring her into the barn easier than expected, thankfully.

Even so, in true Ava fashion she managed to break two plastic cone collars in short order and so the boys and I were off to find her a more durable one before she chewed out her stitches and ended up back at the vet clinic.

Charlie update:  Charlie seems pretty much the same today as yesterday, though perhaps a slight bit better.  She is taking sips of the water I am offering either by syringe or in a bucket.  I successfully administered her first three syringes of antibiotics.  She munched on a bit of hay and ate some grain.  She was up on her feet most of the day but is moving slowly.
