On the first warm day of 2021, I took a quick peek into our bee hives to see how they fared over the winter. Sadly, not well. Not well at all. Only one hive made it through alive. This is a disappointing result given the relatively short and mild winter we had, though we are relieved that it was not a total loss.
We will wait for the weather to warm up more before dissembling the dead outs and trying to figure out why they died. It is sad when you do everything right and the hives still perish. There is absolutely no doubt that beekeeping is a very challenging hobby.
