A 3.2 km Adventure

For today's hike  - How could we not?  It was above zero this afternoon! - we tried the road less travelled.  We found an obscure nature conservancy that was about a half hour away and looked like it had potential.  Off we went.

Upon arrival we parked in the sole parking space and located the "trail".  It was one lone set of footprints headed off into the woods in calf deep (on me) snow.  The boys looked at me dubiously but trekked alongside into the sunshiney forest.

It was a tough slog for their little legs.  After a while we hit a folk in the "trail" with footprints leading in opposite directions.  We chose to head to the right which ended up being a dead end.  We backtracked and then headed along the other fork until we came to a sign that said "Nature Conservancy Limit - Private Property".  At this point the big boys started to whine.

But there was nothing to be done but backtrack until I found another "trail".  I am pretty sure this one was made by a deer.  It was all in the name of adventure, right?  My children did not agree.  They wanted a map.

As luck would have it, the deer trail ended at the plowed driveway that we drove in on.  The boys were ecstatic.

These are their happy faces. 😬

In the end, it was 3.2 km (45 min) of wholesome outdoor adventure.  Even so, the boys have said that they are done hiking for a while; they would rather shovel snow.  Lucky for them (well, for me really), it is supposed to snow tomorrow!  What are the odds?!  It is almost like this was planned...😇
