(Almost) Better Than Bacon

There are some things that just taste better when you grow them yourself.  Many people swear that there is a noticeable taste difference in farm fresh eggs.  Others declare homemade bread to be the winner in the flavour and texture department.

To me, freshly picked carrots taste completely different than those you get from the grocery store.  Green peas, fresh cucumbers, vine ripe tomatoes and just off the bush raspberries also pack a flavourful punch when homegrown.

My dad always said that homegrown pork offered the most significant taste difference compared to store bought.  I never fully agreed with him until today when Ian sliced into our homegrown, home cured, home smoked hams.  Our Gael Glen Farm ham was simply delectable.  It rivalled our homegrown, home cured, home smoked bacon and that is practically impossible.  Once again, Dad was right.  I wish he was here to taste our triumph.

P.S. We remain grateful to Hammy and Gloria for each mouth-watering bite.
