Hunts & Hikes

After a productive morning hunt (for Ian) and farm chores (for me and the boys), Ian and I headed off on our anniversary "date".  Grandma kindly offered to watch all three boys (no easy feat as Alistair has entered the terrible twos early) for the afternoon.  Ian and I opted for a forest hike and picnic.  This is the BEST time of year!

We also checked Ian's trail cameras and were astounded to see a photo of an eleven point buck visiting his tree stand.  Ian has now set his sights high on this majestic fellow as this year's goal deer.

During our excursion we happened upon a goldmine of wild shaggy mane mushrooms.  What a find!  I transformed our foraged treasure into six containers of delicious shaggy mane-pinot noir soup.

After a delicious supper of roasted salmon prepared in our honour by Grandma and our boys, our evening was spent breaking down the pigs in preparation for Ian's day of butchering tomorrow.

Ribs!

It was a busy day that kept us both hopping from start to finish but it was also a good one.  Happy 11th wedding anniversary to us!
