Happy Swine-iversary

Today was an unusual eleventh wedding anniversary - even for us.

Sweet potato scones for our anniversary tea party.

We spent the day elbow deep in pig innards.  Gloria Swinem and Ham Solo are now one step closer to becoming the bacon that they were always meant to be.

Many thanks to David and Mike who helped out.  We really could not have done it without you.

For our first swine slaughter, it was not perfect but it did not go poorly.  We made mistakes and we learned from them.  We will do some things differently next time.  We supported each other and got the job done.  At the end of the day, we are left standing together awaiting our next adventure.

Did you see how I made this a metaphor for our marriage too?  Clever, huh?

The boys were not permitted to witness the slaughter but observed the preliminary cleaning.  There is no better anatomy lesson than field dressing animals and so we take advantage of this opportunity to peak their interest in the organs and their functions.  Liam and Seamus will observe the butchering over the next few days as they do with the lambs, deer, chickens and ducks.   Normalizing the farm to table process is very important to us and so far I feel like we are doing a good job guiding the boys through this transition.

Liam and Seamus were also excited to celebrate our special day, so even though it was a busy day, we pulled together a quick tea party for supper.

This was certainly an anniversary that we will not forget any time soon.
