A TGIF Farm Feast

Today's duckling relocation project was a bit chaotic but we got it done.  It turns out that when motivated ducklings can actually squeeze themselves through the small holes of the poultry netting.  After rounding up a few unanticipated escapees, we added some additional trellis barricades which kept everyone contained.  Alistair and I watched with anticipation to see the ducklings leave the coop to experience their new foraging grounds but they did not seem very adventurous.

That is until a hen on the other side coop decided to let loose a rather enthusiastic egg laying melody.  This scared the heebie jeebies out of the ducklings and all of a sudden they could not get out of the coop fast enough.  They tumbled over each other in their efforts to escape the hen's warbling and waddled around in circles in a tight flock until they happened upon their swimming pool.  Well, that was that.  Who knew that thirteen ducklings could all fit into a kiddie pool at the same time?!  It is indeed possible.

Apparently the role of duckling babysitter really helps one work up an appetite.  Alistair replenished his energy supplies by chowing down on a bowl of last year's raspberries.  It is never too soon to begin preparing your palate for this year's crop, right?

Speaking of anticipating delicious things, after all of today's hard work by 4 pm we were all anticipating our supper.  Tonight's TGIF feast was BBQ rack of venison with wild ramp pesto, grilled homegrown asparagus, and garden salad with a delicious homemade dressing made with our chive blossom infused vinegar and our own dried mint leaves. For dessert we had goat milk vanilla pudding topped with homegrown stewed rhubarb compote.  This was all accompanied by a tall glass of home-brewed peach ginger dandelion kombucha.

Not a bad way to wrap up the work week.  With our full tummies, a delightful thunderstorm and the accompanying downpour, we are well positioned to spring ahead into the weekend.  Happy Friday!
