We did about a hundred farm chores today but the most enjoyable was using my Grandpa Ed's favourite hoe to transplant my Dad's asparagus plants into my kitchen garden.
My love of gardening is tightly interwoven with memories of my father and grandfather. Even though they are no longer here to teach and work alongside me, I continue to be inspired by their love of farming.
Growing food in the shadow of my forefathers - using their tools, planting their roots, being guided by their love of the land - nourishes my soul and helps me keep their legacy alive for my sons.
Besides, who doesn't love asparagus? It is the best vegetable!
