That's Not Real Pie...You Tricked Me

You know when you look in your fridge and there are three or four things that are on their last day?  This usually begs the question, what the heck can I make with these random, close to rotting items?  Today's challenge: green beans, sour cream, turkey.  My solution: homemade turkey pot pie.

Who has the time to make and bake pie from scratch these days, you ask?  Seriously, good question.  The answer is: today, I do [sigh of happiness].

Serving savory pies to toddlers is hilarious.  At first, they are so excited, "Pie for dinner.  Great!"  Then, when they see the "pie" on their plate, the excitement evaporates and we usually get, "Hey! This isn't real pie.  You tricked me!  Yuck!"  Today was no exception.

To make up for the fake pie, I also whipped up (I use this term loosely as they are actually a ton of work) a batch of GG's butter tarts.  Despite making several tiny mistakes, they turned out amazing.  I have to be careful saying this as it may well precipitate a parade of impromptu visits by my extended family.  GG's butter tarts are a family tradition and they are beyond delicious.  They are also now in the freezer for anyone thinking of a late night visit.

Not wanting to be left out, Seamus also slaved away in his kitchen.  What a wonderful helper!

This is his new "smile".
