It is apple sauce day here at Gael Glen Farm. It has been a fabulous year for apples. Ten years ago when I planted our apple orchard, this was the type of harvest that I was dreaming of!
Liam and Seamus worked all morning to pick all the apples they could reach. I continued during their nap and finished up. We got at least 80 L of apples.
Next we washed them, chopped them in quarters, and steamed them until they were soft.
Finally, into the food mill they went and out came - you guessed it - apple sauce!
I will work on pressure canning the sauce Monday and Tuesday. Alistair is very excited about the apple sauce since it is something he can actually eat. Yum!
It is lucky that he likes it because we will for sure be set in the apple sauce department for the remainder of 2019 and all of 2020!
