An incredible thing about farming is that it requires you to share control over the process. By planting a seed, you give it life. Yet, plants will not grow slower or faster regardless of how much you watch or will them. And they will not wait for your return you should happen to disappear for a few days...

Whether you are home or away, your plants will grow as they wish. And grow ours did!

Upon our arrival home to a spotless house, no dirty laundry, mucked barns, and happy kids and animals (thank you so much Grandma and Grandpa, you are amazing!), our cucumber and squash seedlings were practically crawling out of their container.
There is no time like the present to get back into the swing of things (though it makes me question who is really in charge here - me or the plants?). I re-potted the seedlings and started a new batch of lettuce and sweet corn.
Moral of the story: You can take a farm girl to Montreal but even her plants know that she'll be back up to her elbows in dirt before they can outgrow their pots.
