Fond Hearts & Family Fun

We were very happy to spend today bonding with family members that we have not seen in much too long.  We really missed them!

Liam, Seamus and Alistair visited Fort Henry National Historic Site with their cousins Grayson, Abigail and Logan.  They had so much fun checking out everything from the uniforms to the cannons.

Based on his expression, Logan does not seem too thrilled
about being stuck in this tiny garrison cell with Alistair.
The soldiers at Fort Henry offered to take all the kids off our hands
for the next ten years as they serve their Queen and country.
Sadly, there were no takers for this excellent opportunity either.

The biggest room in the fort?  The wine cellar, of course.

An underground passage way to allow soldiers quick access to
key defence positions around the fort.

Alistair waiting for the artillery demonstration.
He was not a fan of the loud shots once it began.

The others thought the shots were cool.

Beautiful Kingston from the fort.

After our visit to Fort Henry, we met up with Ian on his return trip from Toronto for an afternoon of hot dogs and swimming.  The boys were extremely excited to see a photo of Ian's salmon from his birthday fishing trip on Lake Ontario and to check out his special birthday gift - a new to us truck for hunting and fishing (and hiking and farm chores...shhh!  Who said that?!).

Ian's big catch - the only one before they had to cut their
fishing trip short due to extreme seasickness.

Ian's 40th birthday truck.

We are thrilled to have our immediate family back together after a few days apart and it was wonderful to have some of our extended family back together for the day at least.  Absence really does make the heart grow fonder (or stronger depending on who is citing the proverb, apparently).  It was an excellent day.
