A wise woman once told me that no matter what ails us, a little bit of gratitude can go a long way to making everyone feel better.
Today I am grateful for the smelt salad sandwiches that we ate for lunch. They were made with fish that we caught and canned ourselves, my artisan bread fresh out of the oven and cuttings from our onion seedlings for a nice spicy kick.
I paired my lunch with a goat milk latte made with this morning's milk. Thanks Martha and Mellie! Our self-sufficiency helps calm feelings of unease and anxiety that have been more prevalent of late.
Liam is grateful for his kid brothers. Even though they can be so annoying, they are his constant companions, love him unconditionally and are so quick to forgive. Their daily interactions are teaching Liam to be a kinder, more nurturing person and, goodness knows, the world needs more of those.
Seamus is grateful for his imagination. Seamus can amuse himself with just about anything and I do not think he has ever told me that he is bored.
Alistair is grateful to be loved and included on all our family adventures. He is just so happy to be part of the chaos that is our life.
And finally, Charlotte was grateful for a warm place to lay her head. Charlotte is a very wise old girl. Sometimes all we really need is to stay home, turn off the news, stretch out in the afternoon sun, and be grateful for what we already have.

Today Ian was grateful for a surplus of helper munchkins. He, Liam, Seamus and family friend Georgia, worked together to collect 14 huge buckets of maple sap. We are going to be boiling until the cows come home (and we do not even own cows...yet!)
