Seeking out the Exotic

After performing our usual farm chore routine - feeding, water changes, egg collecting, shovelling - Seamus and I were in the mood for something a little more exotic.  So, we headed to the Canadian Museum of Nature for a morning of butterflies, whales, and dinosaurs.

The museum's live Butterflies in Flight exhibit was phenomenal.  After giving Seamus a stern pre-exhibit talk about how we do not chase, catch, or squish the butterflies, we were ready for our butterfly experience.  Seamus was absolutely delighted.  As was I.  The butterflies were enchanting and to be surrounded by so many at one time was simply breathtaking.

When they were not eating, the butterflies were flying all over the place.
I thought Seamus was going to pass out with excitement when a butterfly landed on my sleeve.

Despite there being plenty of people in the butterfly room, it seems no one else was in the mood for whales or dinosaurs today.  Maybe these are old news?  We were completely by ourselves in much of the rest of the museum.

Seamus and the Whale - all alone.

By ourselves with the dinosaurs.
Aside from the butterflies, Seamus' favourite exotic creature this visit was the enormous turtle.

You cannot help but be in awe of this fearsome beast!

The farm is great for our every day entertainment but it is also nice to get out and experience something new and exotic.
