I now understand why people put so much time and effort into sending holiday cards....because it is such fun to receive them! This year, Ian and I sent out our first round of Christmas/Hanukkah/Season's Greetings cards. While we enjoyed drafting the newsletter to accompany the cards (we had such an exciting year to summarize), we found it to be a bit of a pain to address them all and a little expensive to mail them out. But we quickly forgot these minor irritations when, each day leading up to Christmas, we would gallop down to the end of the driveway to see what new surprise the mailman left for us. And we were never disappointed! In the two weeks leading up to Christmas we received at least two cards each day - even during blizzards This was an enormous improvement over last year when we received only one lonely holiday card - in total. This year we received over 30! We chalk it up to a life lesson - you need to send in order to receive. I do feel a bit sad for our mailbox now though that the excitement of the holiday mail rush is over...all it is getting now is bills and we certainly aren't galloping down the driveway to collect those!
We liked receiving holiday cards so much, Ian has already gone out and bought cards to send out next year. Not surprisingly, he found them on discount at the store closing sale of Zellers and we were able to get 36 cards, regular $7.99, now on sale for $1.60. You know Ian can't resist a deal - we stocked up on 3 years worth of cards!
However, we learned our lesson last year with our discount holiday card purchase - we were sure to check for spelling mistakes this time around before buying them. You can rest easy, next year we will not be wishing you "Saeson's Greetings!"
