Hauling out "Le Shack"!

Ian here, reporting from snowy Ottawa.

Krystal asked that I do another guest appearance on the blog to talk about what's going on from my perspective over the last few weeks...   Well, once new years has rolled around, my mind instantly fills with visions of huge walleye on the ice.  No -- I'm not talking about the fish isle at the supermarket...

First thing is first though...   The recipe for catching winter walleye (and other fish) is simple.

A healthy dose of heat (see the next ingredient)
As much equipment as you can afford
A healthy serving of perseverance and time.

This year will be the first year I have a proper "permanent" ice shack.  Last season we had one, but it didn't have holes inside and really there were a few design flaws (only one side of plywood) and so it was pretty uncomfortable and unusable.  This year we remedied that with some lovely donated plywood, a nice little window and a little elbow grease.

Here is a photo of the shack leaving the parking lot on the way to it's winter home on the ice.  Also there is a picture of the shack in a state of partial build.  You can see that the sides fold up and a 2x4 holds them apart.  Once this is done, we put 2 plywood sheets on the sides and a tarp over the top.

There is even a nice little wood stove in there to keep the shack toasty.

Stay tuned for ice fishing reports and updates on "Le Shack"!

Ian

  2. Yes. Ian got a registration number last year and it is posted on the shack above the door.
