Busy Buzzies

Our bees are still working hard at rebuilding their colonies after our devastating loss of more than half our hives this spring after a nearby property was sprayed to reduce mosquitos. We are hoping for a long autumn so the bees have enough time to rebuild before the snow flies. I am in the hives now to treat for varroa mites before the queens begin to lay their winter bees. These bees are the ones that need to stay alive throughout the long Ottawa winter so it is very important that they get off to the best, healthiest start right from the time they are an egg. We are doing absolutely everything we can to keep our honey bee colonies strong and healthy - are you? Please think twice about having your property sprayed for mosquitos. Our bees were certainly not fans.
