A Single Mission

Today began with a beautiful sunrise and a single mission: sufficiently tire out all the boys so that they would go to sleep at "normal time" despite today's "spring ahead" time change.  We mapled. We hiked. We did not nap. Everyone was snoring by 6:30 pm. Mission accomplished.

A lovely sunrise.
I just knew it was going to be a good day.

Liam made whole wheat waffles with homemade maple syrup for his brothers for breakfast.
They smelled like cookies while baking.
Delicious!

We checked our sap buckets; some were half full - with ice!
We will wait for a warm day to collect.

The boys each asked to tap one more tree.

Ian agreed, so we added six more taps.

We did the 3.5 km Carp Barrens trail.
Each boy walked the whole thing independently.

Alistair's joie-de-vivre is unparalleled. He thrives on outdoor adventures with his brothers.
He put one tiny 3-year-old foot in front of the other and did not complain once.
He crawled up the hills and slid down the steep parts on his bum.
He was so, so proud at the end to have done the whole trail by himself.
Alistair was definitely the super star of the day.
He is such an awesome kid.

It was an excellent day. I am so glad for the extra hour of light in the evenings. I love this time change! Spring is coming!!
