Farm Camp Fun

It was the busiest day we have ever had here on Gael Glen Farm but it could not have gone better.  Children's Day on the farm (aka Farm Camp) was a rip-roaring success with both the kids and the farm animals having a blast.

Charlie was in full on petting zoo mode.  I was so proud of her and how gentle she was with the kids.  She gave the smaller ones rides and radiated joy from all the rubs and pets she received.

Martha and Mellie endured the heaps of novice hands eager to try milking a goat for the first time.  They were beyond patient and produced enough milk for everyone to try a cup of goat milk hot chocolate in the afternoon.

The baby goats were their usual snuggle-bug selves.  The girls loved petting the kids but then really, how can you not?!  They are just so fluffy.

Who needs exercise when you can have "chick-ercise" and "duck-ercise"?!  The hens and ducks got chased and cuddled many times throughout the day.

While we discouraged the chasing, who can say no to duck snuggles?  Kaitlin was our most enthusiastic duck snuggler though the others gave her a run for her money.

Georgia excelled at checking for hen eggs.  She must have checked the nests a dozen times over the course of the day and was absolutely ecstatic when the hens left her one.  Buying eggs in the store does not hold a candle to finding them fresh in the nests!

She also fed the chickens a ton of food to make them lay more.

In addition to animal fun we climbed trees, baked cookies, played dress up, painted, ate lots of healthy food, and played with toys.  Liam and Seamus were so tired out that they even went for afternoon naps!

After all this activity, I bet both the animals and the kids slept like babies last night.  What a busy, busy day.  You might need to give us a few days to recover before you ask if we will be doing this again for the next school strike next week...
