You can't beat cod and corn-on-the-cob. Thanks Ms. Kerry for the cod-on-delivery direct from Newfoundland!

He’s Baaaaack!
And just like that two boys are back in school! Seamus is off for one more week and then the house will be back to being oh, so quiet during the day.
Liam had a wonderful first day back. He is in Mme Josee’s 4B class. It is shaping up to be a fantastic year.

Soothing Green
This afternoon was all about the soothing green of the forest and the vibrant aquamarine of the lake. And lots of mushrooms. So, so many mushrooms!
I just love being out in the woods. It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Proud
Like almost all families some nights we eat Kraft Dinner. Other nights though, we do so, so much better.
We transformed this into all of this.... |
Roasted eggplant, zucchini, and sweet peppers with chopped basil. |
Tomato, garlic, chive and basil salad drizzled with balsamic and olive oil. |
Freshly dug potatoes with chives. |
BBQ rooster. |
This is a feast where every single thing except the condiments and spices was grown right here on Gael Glen Farm. I am really proud of meals like this.

Honouring a Friend
We recently attended a celebration of life for a friend who passed away much too soon. Mike was an avid cook and owned over 500 cookbooks. In memory of him, his family shared some of his many cookbooks with the friends and family he left behind.
And so, dinner is served in honour of Mike. Using a recipe for Lentil, Bacon and Beer Chili from one of Mike's cookbooks, we cooked up a storm of deliciousness, only deviating form the recipe to add homegrown zucchini, extra bacon, and a whole lot of love.
Mike was here with us in spirit as we gave a nod to his memory before diving in to our dishes of hearty and delicious chili. Reflecting on how busy I am with work, the kids, and the farm, dinner sometimes falls by the wayside even though, like Mike did, I get such joy out of cooking with ingredients we made or grew ourselves. This is my nudge to take time to be in the kitchen cooking and baking the things I love and trying out new recipes to find more favourites. Life is too short for frozen fish sticks, just saying.
There will be more recipes from Mike's cookbooks gifted to our family over the coming months and years. And we will mention and tag him when they are because it helps to know that others are thinking of him too.

That's a Wrap
And that's a wrap! This is the last week of our 2022 CSA program. Baskets are harvested and await pick up.
This week's basket includes: cabbage, kale, onions, leeks, hot and sweet peppers, basil, sage, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, turnips, carrots, beets, potatoes, lettuce, yellow beans, and a dozen eggs. The special items are olive herb loaf and borage blossom-infused vinegar.
A huge thank you to our CSA families this year for partnering with us to bring locally and sustainably produced food to families in our community. We hope you enjoyed your veggies and extras! See you next year.
