Our adventures started this morning with trout and eggs Benedict for breakfast and some trout fishing off our dock. The fish were not biting and the kids were getting fussy so we headed out for a day of excitement.
Our explorations began down the very long Rue de Phare (no lighthouse in sight, mind you) at the cliffs of Parc Colborne. We did a short hike along the rocky shores to the Colborne “shipwreck” (a wooden sailing ship reproduction of the ill-fated 1838 boat that wrecked off the coast of nearby Anticosti Island). The kids found the whole thing thrilling.
Next up was a visit to the Bourg de Pabos where we walked around the Nova Lumina trail, saw an old fishing shack with a grass roof (to keep it cool), and walked beside a huge iron railway bridge (ancien pont de voie ferree) that connected Chemin de la Plage to Plage du Chenal.
We spent the hot and sunny afternoon at Plage Pabos playing in the sand and surf.
We then treated ourselves to sucre de erable ice cream sundaes homemade by the grannies at le Croque Mitaine bar laitier in Chandler. This was the cutest artisan ice cream shop ever. I would only shop here if we lived locally.
Dinner was striped bass with dill and lemon sauce back at the cabin.
Afterwards Ian headed out for an evening of trout fishing on our lake. Meanwhile, I built a campfire and sat outside to enjoy the stillness of the lake, the beauty of the sunset, and the peace and quiet that only comes once the boys are fast asleep snuggled in their cozy beds.
What a perfectly sunny summer day!
