Bonaventure

Our alarms chimed at 2:15 am this morning! The ocean fish won’t wait for their breakfast. We puttered out of the Bonaventure Marina at 4:30 am ready to catch some Striped Sea Bass. And boy did we!

The seagulls alerted us to their presence and we watched the ocean boil with their feeding frenzy. It was like catching fish in a barrel. We casted into the “boil” and WHAM! Fish. Cast. WHAM! Fish. Cast. WHAM! Fish. We had caught our limit of these beautiful zebras of the sea by 6:30 am. It was incredible.

Next we turned our attention to mackerel. Our captain was able to located a school and before we knew it we were reeling in one fish after another. We lost half of these crazy fish before they were even in the boat! They were jumping off the hooks and flying everywhere. It was nuts! We stopped fishing after catching a dozen since there was no way we’d be able to eat more over the next week - even with eating fish for every meal.

What an amazing ocean fishing excursion! Too bad Alistair spent part of it in a Gravol-induced coma (not to worry he did plenty of fishing too and no one was even the tiniest bit seasick despite a noticeable swell at the beginning of the trip).

What fun! What excitement! What deliciousness!
