Long Distance Bake Off

It has been a tough slog at the cottage; relaxing is hard work.  We have been busy taking long walks and the boys have spent lots of time outside enjoying the sunshine.

Emily has especially been enjoying her time here.  She has been occupied exploring the forest and rehearsing her audition for the next Benji.

Emily following her nose.
She is convinced that she is tracking something big!

Here she comes!

Not to be outdone, Seamus also wanted to make an audition video to be Benji's replacement.  He has no idea who Benji is or even that he is a dog but he had fun mimicking Emily anyway.

In the midst of all this fun and excitement, we took the time to check in on Papa back home on the farm.  By this point in March Break last year, Ian was subsisting on cookies and apples and feeling a bit lonesome.

We were happy to hear that he is, in fact, eating better this year and has invited some friends over in the evenings to keep him company.  He even (albeit accidentally) defrosted some bread dough from the freezer and then took the time to bake it.

Ian's daily bread.  Nice job!
We also baked bread today to accompany Grandma's delectable dinner of lemon shrimp pasta.

Our bread.

We are improvising a bit with equipment but the end result,
though slightly over-proofed, was tasty.
The Farm vs. Cottage bread bake off ended in a tie.  One loaf was slightly over-baked, while the other was slightly over-proofed, but both loaves were delicious - though not as delicious as Grandma's signature pasta dish.  Yummy!

It would seem that we worked up quite an appetite today.  Both boys had seconds and would have eaten more if we had let them.  Thank you Grandma for another wonderful day at the cottage.
