We spent this very rainy day at Six Flags Great Escape amusement park. We had booked date-specific tickets months ago and today’s less-than-ideal weather could not be helped. For all the crowds we experienced at Hershey Park, Great Escape had zero; it was practically empty.
The park felt like a throwback to a 1970’s era storybook- themed permanent fairgrounds. It boasted retro country fair style rides, old school wooden roller coasters, bumper cars, and many fair games like ring toss and choose the rubber duck.

| There was an old woman who lived in a shoe… |

 |
| The park was rainy and practically deserted. |
We did most of the rides, walking right on to them all, enabling the boys to double up on whichever rides they liked most.
 |
| We dropped from the top of this! |
 |
| Seamus rode this coaster twice back-to-back. |
 |
| This one was terrifying. |
 |
| The Condor gave Ian a spinning stomach. |
The rain wasn’t too bad around noon when the park opened but it poured later on. At 3 pm we were drenched despite our rain jackets and umbrella when the loudspeakers announced that the park would be closing early due to inclement weather and that tonight’s Fright Fest was cancelled. We weren’t too upset as we don’t like scary things so we rolled out shortly thereafter.

| We’re wet but loving it. |
 |
| We rubbed the pig’s snout for luck like they do in Florence, Italy. |
Despite the rain, we had lots of fun today. The retro rides like the Blizzard (which spun us like an egg beater inside the blue igloo shaped dome) were nostalgic and enjoyable. The lack of crowds was fantastic and walking on every ride with zero waits cannot be beat. We appreciated the short trick or treat path - especially the stations that gave the parents a treat too - and the sugar boost got us through the soggy afternoon.
 |
| This ride should have been called “scrambled”. We were the eggs and it sure shook us up a bunch! |

| Trick or treat! |
Back at our campground we warmed up and dried out. On the whole, it was a great day and fun was had by all.

Ouf!!!!! DP
