Day 153: Dover to Passaconaway, NH

We were up at 5 am this morning, so excited for our lobster fishing charter. We arrived at the marina in Hampton an hour later, ready to go. We finally got a hold of Captain Bob shortly after 7 am (we were supposed to leave at 7), who hold us via text message that our trip was cancelled. Apparently there is an incoming Nor’Easter and the ocean is rough. How disappointing and frustrating that he left cancelling our trip until after today’s start time. Sigh. We really wanted to go lobster fishing! We’ll have to put this back on our bucket list for a future adventure.

A disappointed trio of would be lobster fishermen.

Deserted beach town.

White capped waves and lots of wind.

We left the marina, backtracked to Dover and then continued North. We stopped for groceries and arrived at our rented cabin just of Conway. For the next three nights we are sleeping at the Radeke Cabin, an old Ranger cabin in the woods. The cabin is rustic with no electricity or running water. It has an outhouse and its own supply of mice. We enjoyed the afternoon playing board games, hiking to the nearby Swift River, and then warming up by the wood stove inside the cabin.

The trees are changing colour here.

Seamus found a sea slug.

We made homemade seafood chowder for supper. We have decided to sleep in our camper instead of in the cabin to steer clear of the resident mice. It was a low key day. Now that we’ve settled in, we’re looking forward to some new adventures tomorrow.
