We woke up to flurries! Brrrr. The Cloud Peak Skyway, our pass of choice over the Bighorn Mountain range, was covered in several inches of snow with road conditions advertised as slick and weather conditions as windy. Yuck.
We made a game time decision to go North into Montana to drive around the mountains. Our detour meant that we passed by Pictograph Cave State Park. The pictographs were disappointing (see below) but the leg stretch was enjoyable and I am always a fan of a good cave, or three.

Next stop was Dead Indian Summit Overlook followed by a serious series of switchbacks to get us to the Sunlight Rangers Cabin in Wapiti. It was -2 degrees Celsius on the summit and the trees were all frost covered. Again - brrrr!
We finally arrived to our accommodation for the next two nights. We are staying in a converted forest ranger cabin and after a month of living in the travel trailer, it feels like the height of luxury. It is in valley surrounded by a ring of white capped mountains and has its own prairie dog town! We have a fireplace and wood to burn, hot shower, toaster AND oven, and laundry! It is still snowing but we are living the dream.
