Day 6: Peninsula State Park WI to Wisconsin Dells WI: Corn Fields and a Slot Canyon

Our departure from Door County saw us driving west across the state to Wisconsin Dells. We passed many, many farmers’ fields but no cheese factories - we are on the lookout - it is the cheese state after all! We did pick up some sweet corn from an on-farm stand for a great deal.

After checking in to our campground, we went on the Upper Dells Boat Tour to visit Witch’s Gulch slot canyon. It is privately owned so the only way to see it is by boat tour. The canyon was enchanting and we enjoyed seeing the many stacks and rock formations. It was much more commercial than the slot canyons we visited in the Finger Lakes in New York State earlier this summer. Wisconsin Dells has a very Niagara Falls vibe though, so perhaps this is not surprising. Our tour guide was a retired opera singer and the boat’s captain was a high school teacher when not on summer vacation.

After the tour we took a refreshing swim in the campground’s pool and had corn on the cob and BBQ’d ribs while we did laundry.

We are off to Noah’s Arc Waterpark tomorrow for a day of excitement and adventure.
