Day 14: Sandusky OH to Geneva-on-the-lake OH (via Cleveland): Two Types of Rock

While waiting for the Seneca Caverns (tagline: the “caviest” cave - very creative) guided tour to open, we explored the adjacent cemetery.

The cave was an adventure. It is a fracture cave so you could see where the cave floor used to fit perfectly against the cave ceiling but now there is a large gap in between that we can walk through. We went down 6 levels (approximately 90 feet below ground level) until we reached the water table and could go no further. Apparently the cave keeps going beyond level 12 but the water has never been lower than that. The owners figured that out during a drought.

Our afternoon was spent with another kind of rock - music! - at Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The kids liked the jam rooms on level 2 where they got to try our real instruments and play pinball. They hated the rest of it - “why are we looking at a bunch of old clothes and broken guitars?”. We saw some iconic things though, Michael Jackson’s Thriller jacket, Madonna’s Like a Virgin outfit, Paul Lennon’s glasses.

We had a great evening at a Cleveland Guardian’s baseball game at Progressive Field. The kids made it through the whole game (we fed them continuously - peanuts, hotdogs, pizza, popcorn). The Guardians won 9 to 4 over Miami; there were lots of exciting hits and runs. Alistair loved being allowed to scream at appropriate times (we are always telling him not to scream lol).

After the game we got out of the city, ending up at a park on Lake Erie near a beachfront town of Geneva OH that is a perfect spot for sleeping.
