Day 12: Indiana Dunes IN to Port Clinton OH: Museum Tours

We started our day at the Indiana Dunes Dinosaur Museum where we marvelled at creatures of long ago. My favourite was the enormous petrified tree but the kids liked petting Frankie the boa constrictor best. They also loved digging in the sand for sharks teeth - which they were allowed to keep! We also had the museum’s founder offer to take our family photo.

The museum is attached to the South Bend Chocolate Company. Our tour guide was Elizabeth, a member of the founding family, and the tour she gave us was excellent. In addition to a small chocolate museum, we did a factory tour. All of the machines were running and assembly line staff were working. There was melted chocolate everywhere! It was amazing. We walked right through the factory, tried a bunch of samples, and purchased some seconds to bring home.

Our third and final museum of the day was the RV and Mobile Home museum near Elkhart IN. It had historical travel trailers and mobile homes on display. It was really cool to explore how this mode of transportation has changed across the decades.

Our afternoon was spent driving to Ohio. Liam and Seamus found a special treat when we stopped for gas.

We found a lovely seaside park for eating supper (complete with bats flying overhead) and are sleeping chez Walmart tonight. We are watching a thunderstorm roll in as we doze off.
