Day 5: Nicolet Beach, Peninsula State Park WI: Sand, Snorkeling and Paddleboards

After a 5km morning Skyline Trail hike to burn off some energy - the kids were up and ready to go at 5am! - we headed to Nicolet Beach in Peninsula State Park. The boys cycled through swimming, snorkelling, and paddle boarding.

After a lunch of cream cheese, cucumber and smoked trout sandwiches, we headed out for the afternoon. We found an excellent souvenir at the Olde orchard Antique Mall in Egg Harbor, a really old history of Paul Bunyan, which we are reading aloud around the campfire. We visited a pretty weird but fun private junk museum showcasing antiques and collectibles by decade. The depression era glass in a variety of colours was lovely.

We stopped for cheese tasting - which was enjoyed by everyone- and a little break for the adults involving a glass of gewürztraminer on the patio at Harbor Ridge Winery. A visit to a local tourist market yielded the consumption of many, many samples (including very delicious cherry salsa) and purchase of cherry donuts for breakfast tomorrow.

Our final stop of the day was for frozen custard. It was like super smooth and velvety soft serve.

Dinner was salmon cooked over an open fire and campfire popcorn. Delicious!
