Day 48: Wells Grey Provincial Park, BC

Today was a mix of waterfalls adventure and cottage-style recreation. We started off with the adventure part, visiting the top three waterfalls in Wells Grey Provincial Park.

Helmcken Falls is the fourth highest falls in Canada. This waterfall was crazy! So impressive.

Next was Dawson’s Falls. It was a shorter, wider waterfall on top of a riverbed of volcanic glass.

Finally, we visited Spahat Falls. We learned that spahat is an Indigenous word for “bear”. While we didn’t see any bears on the trail, the waterfall was fantastic. We could see it better than Helmcken Falls because there was less spray and mist.

In the afternoon Ian got out on the water with the boys for some coho salmon fishing. When they weren’t fishing, the boys alternated between helping with laundry, dishes,  and cleaning the trailer, taking long hot showers, and swimming off the dock.

We’re ending the day with two salmon in the freezer, all clean laundry and bodies, and a tidy trailer. We’re ready to head out early tomorrow to begin the next page in our adventure.
