We all woke up early today unprompted; I guess our bodies are still operating on Mountain time. We were thrilled to emerge from the trailer into a sunshiny, blue sky day. Finally! This is the first in a long while.
We dropped into the Mount Robson visitor centre before leaving town for Ali to hand in his completed “homework” and pick up his Junior Ranger pin. The rest of us were treated to an almost entire view of Mount Robson.

We then hit the open road, driving into the greenest place we have ever been. I have never seen so many trees in one place!
We eventually arrived in Clearwater, BC where our very first order of business was to visit the trout fish hatchery. The boys and Ian got busy fishing, fitting in a quick lunch in between casts. The community pond at the hatchery is catch and release. There were a ton of huge rainbow trout in the pond that could be easily seen from shore in the crystal clear water. There was a fishing instructor on site to help the kids fish and at the end she let the boys feed them fish pellets. The water roiled and boiled as the fish devoured the pellets. It was exciting! They were ravenous beasts.

We checked into the Dutch Lake RV Resort shortly after noon. This will be our home for the next two nights. After dropping off the trailer, we headed into Wells Grey Provincial Park. This place is supposed to be a waterfall paradise. We did a short 5km hike to Moul Falls. I was excited about this waterfall since I read that the boys would be able to walk behind the spray to a cave in the back. This might be possible at a different time of year but not now with all the water from the snowmelt and the recent rainy weather. The falls were huge and gushing. It was absolutely not safe to try to venture behind them; however, the falls themselves were spectacular.
Upon our return to the campground, Ali and Seamus were adamant that the lake water was “warm” (which I seriously doubt) and that they were going to swim. And swim they did, until they were shivering uncontrollably.
Our evening consisted of a dinner of hamburgers cooked over the campfire and fishing off the dock next to our campsite. We are preparing for a return of the rain tomorrow. We are hoping to continue checking out the sights that Wells Grey has to offer but we’ll have to see how the weather impacts our best laid plans.
What?!? Hamburgers for supper when you caught that gorgeous rainbow trout? What’s up with that? I can taste it now!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are all slimming down with your current exercise regime and the boys are growing taller! I miss you all. Keep on having fun. Beautiful memories are being made!
The community pond was catch and release so we had to return the huge rainbow trout back to his brothers, hence the hamburgers.
