We started at 7 am at Sunrise Point and hiked down into the canyon via the Queen’s Garden trail. We saw the Queen Victoria hoodoo and entered the canyon valley far below.

We then hiked back up to the hoodoos on the other side via the Peekaboo trail loop. This was a tough one with lots of ups and downs but luckily it was mostly in the shade. We made it to the halfway point and a highlight was seeing the horses walk by us during their trail ride. We were expecting to see them at some point given how much horse poop was on the trail. We also got the pleasure of experiencing an outhouse with a conveyor belt toilet that whisks away your poop with five steps on a pedal. Fascinating.
We stopped for a short chat with a very nice National Parks Service Search and Rescue ranger we met on the trail. He was very impressed that the boys had completed the whole Peekaboo loop and gifted them a special patch to celebrate their achievement. We then headed back to the canyon rim along a section called Wall Street featuring skyscraper hoodoos on both sides of the trail. The many switchbacks up to the rim almost did us in but we made it eventually (with lots of breaks).
We were done hiking well before the afternoon thunderstorms rolled in and had a leisurely lunch of leftovers back at the trailer. We rested in the afternoon with reading and naps. We had hotdogs for supper. The big boys needed some quiet time in the trailer to regroup so Ian, Ali and I headed to Bryce Lodge for the evening ranger program at 7 pm about the history of map at Bryce Canyon. The lodge’s rustic atmosphere reminded us of the lodge we visited in Glacier National Park. Ian and I enjoyed the program and Ali had a comfortable snooze, though he clapped enthusiastically at the end, lol. Time for sleeping.

The pictures are gorgeous….it looks like you might be on set for a movie, not in an actual place. My favourite picture though is the solitary one of Alistair…definitely a keeper that one.
