Robert H. Treman State Park

After surviving an epic thunderstorm overnight, we rose this morning safe and dry in our trailer. This was a huge improvement over our leaky tent. After saying goodbye to Auntie Megan and family, we faced the toughest hike of the vacation - Robert H. Treman State Park. Lots of steps and Seamus had a sore knee. We made it through and the waterfall and surrounding canyon were pretty incredible.

Nothing like a two tier ice cream cone to motivate a kid to finish a tough hike. A very well deserved treat for a troop of fantastic hikers.

Taughannock Falls

Today's adventure was a combination of a rim and gorge hike to get both the beautiful views and feel the water on our feet. While this is not the waterfall from Robin Hood, it was nonetheless incredible.

The wild blackberries and post-hike wine tasting were fantastic too!

Gorge Exploration

On this scorcher of a Saturday we spent the morning exploring the Gorge Trail at Watkins Glen State Park. It was fantastic with waterfalls and beautiful turquoise pools.

Beach in the Morning, Vineyard in the Afternoon

After our first night ever sleeping in our new travel trailer,  we spent the morning at Sandy Island Beach State Park in New York. The water was really calm with no waves but lovely white soft sand. It was the perfect place to have our morning coffee.

We then drove to the Fingerlakes region to visit some vineyards for wine tasting.

Our day concluded with checking in to Watkins Glen State Park campground and setting up our home base for three amazing days of hiking and waterfall watching.

Touring the Countryside

At a leisurely pace we headed toward home, stopping for a buggy hike at the Poole Family Nature Sanctuary.

We then stopped in to the small but lovely North Lanark Regional Museum near Appleton where we learned all about the history of general stores in the area and tried our hand at playing an antique pump organ.

Now, back home to do some laundry and pack for our weekend camping trip.

All on Board!

Upon being released from jail, we got directly out of town - do not pass Go! We headed to Prescott for a visit to Fort Wellington National Historic Site. We learned all about the veteran soldiers and their families that lived here. We discovered the secret password to gain entry through the sally port. We saw the latrines and the living quarters.

Did you know children slept underneath their parents’ bed alongside the family dog and community rats!

We then spent the afternoon at the Prescott splash park, public pool and beach.

We concluded the day in Smith’s Falls by checking in to our very own caboose at the Eastern Ontario Railway Museum.

We were exhausted after driving a hand car up and down the tracks. Time for bed for the boys and some special train photos taken after hours.
