Mini Vaxxers

Liam and Seamus were superstars when receiving their first COVID-19 vaccination today.  They were so excited that it was finally their turn and they were happy to have their chance to help protect Ali until he is eligible for his shot.  Their nurse said that they were the most well prepared little guys she had seen all day.  I was incredibly proud of my brave boys.  Thank you to the amazing staff at the Almonte Hospital for helping protect our precious cargo.

A Few Prime Cuts

The last few soap loaves got cut today and I am pleased with the results.  I bring you:

Carrot cake with honey drizzle.

White pine with tea tree and eucalyptus.

They each smell divine.  Mmmm!

Ladies Day Out

After a busy hunting season it was finally time for me to have a day off from meal prep, laundry and farm chores.  I called up my university housemate and good friend Jen and together we jetted off for an invigorating and relaxing ladies day.

We started off hiking the Blanchet Trail in Gatineau Park.  It was chilly but gorgeous.











We visited the Chelsea Pub on our way back to the city for a mid-afternoon warm up and snack.


We ended up at Landsdowne for some fresh popcorn and a night-time showing of House of Gucci.

It was a perfect ladies day out.  I didn't miss the kids or the farm animals at all, lol.

We went from "Wow!  It is unseasonable warm out here." to "Holy bananas!  Santa Claus really IS coming to town." in the span of twelve hours.  It is freezing out there!  Brrr.

No Sun is No Fun

The boys were right.  Gloomy, grey November days do, indeed, require homemade pizza.  Pizza does make everything better.  Hoping that the sun will come out tomorrow.

Santa Claus Can Now Come to Town!

After a wild goose chase (figuratively in this case because around here you just never know!), I have managed to procure Advent calendars for the whole family.  I had to brave the mall (gasp!) to make it happen but I prevailed.  We are now ready for the holiday season to begin.  Come on Santa! We’ll be waiting for you here on Gael Glen Farm.

Exciting Times

We are finally getting Bell Fibe internet installed on our street.  Ian (alongside several of our neighbours) did a happy dance when the daylighting truck finally showed up.  Pretty soon we should be rolling in the bandwidth (is this a thing?!). 😂

That's for the Birds!

It is not very often that everyone else is occupied leaving Alistair and I alone together.  I was excited for our special day of Mama and Ali time...Alistair was feeling questionable about it.


Ali is usually a late riser and I was secretly hoping for a Saturday morning sleep in, but nope, he was up before 6 am.  And so, we headed out bright and early for a forest adventure.
















Then it was off to "the restaurant" for pizza. Alistair was very, very excited about this.


This stuff is yummy!

Alistair was absolutely exhausted after lunch so it was home for an afternoon nap.  By the time he woke up, Seamus was back home again and now we are back to being three!

Operating at Full Capacity


Goats: "Our Soap Shop is running?  Right now?  Full steam ahead?  What'cha makin'?  What'cha makin'?  What'cha makin'?"



Me: "It's a surprise."
Goats: "No fair!  It's our milk!  We must be in the know."
Me: "Well, if I tell you I might as well tell everyone..."

As you might know, the artisan soap we make here on Gael Glen Farm is really something.  It is made with leaf lard rendered from our farm raised pigs (thank you Ham Solo and Gloria Swinem), our own goat milk (thank you Martha and Mellie) and, when the recipe calls for it, our own honey (thank you honey bees)! And with that in mind, I am proud to introduce:

One of the best parts of soap making is cutting the loaves into bars a few days after it has been made.  That is when you can see how the patterns turned out.  Stay turned!

All this soap must cure for 4-6 weeks before it is ready to use.  That means that bars will be ready just in time to be Christmas gifts.  Pre-orders are welcome since we have such a limited supply.  Send us a message and I'll make sure that your order is packaged beautifully and ready to go before the holidays.  $8 per bar or 3 bars for $20.  Local delivery available for orders over $80.
