Happy Halloween!

After a rough start to the day (we ended up on an unexpected scavenger hunt for pumpkins after leaving their purchase to the last minute), we managed to turn things around to deliver the boys a spooky and fun Halloween 2021.

We finally found pumpkins still for sale at the third grocery store we visited (but not to worry - Advent calendars and candy canes were everywhere!! 😳).

We carved Jack-o-lanterns, roasted pumpkin seeds, donned our costumes and trick-or-treated our hearts out.  The boys had a blast.  What the heck we are going to do with all the candy they collected, I have no idea.  We must have 100 lbs worth. 😱 That is so, so many sugar highs, sigh.

If you are looking for a useful way to dispose of your Halloween pumpkins (so you have room for candy canes and Advent calendars, of course) remember that pumpkins are candy for livestock.  Feel free to drop your jack-o-lanterns off here at Gael Glen Farm for our goats and sheep to devour.  You can even bring them right back to the animals yourself to experience their looks of gratitude and baaas of enjoyment.

Happy Halloween to one and all!

A Pre-Halloween Parade

The boys were certainly happy to see us after our week away but they were VERY happy that we made it home in time to take them to our neighbourhood’s pre-Halloween parade.  Our leprechaun, kangaroo and Pooh Bear adore trick-or-treating.  They have mastered the “thank you” without prompting (good manners are key!) and have already amassed enough candy to last them a year!  Holy Hannah - the amount of candy three cute kids collect is unbelievable!!

Bagels & Rain Drops

We woke this morning to the promise of Montreal-style bagels and the pitter patter of raindrops on the truck roof.

We truly lucked out with perfect weather for our hiking holiday.  Given that the forecast before we left predicted a high percentage of rain on every single day, in reality we did not receive a single drop until this morning.  We were so, so lucky!  Driving home in the rain is a piece of cake.

Hello Montreal

We spent the very last day of our vacation exploring the streets of Montreal.  We found many treasures, from beautiful old buildings to delicious smoked meat sandwiches to warm sesame bagels.  We finished off the day at a really old cinema for some bubble tea, popcorn and a showing of the new Bond movie.  It was a great day recovering from our crazy week of adventures.  Home tomorrow!

Les Chutes Delaney

Our last hike of my birthday holiday was a doozy.  We hiked up a mountain alongside a majestic waterfall - from the river at the very bottom to the yurt at the very top.  We were pleasantly surprised how high the falls were and that we were the only ones there to enjoy them!

I am pleased to report that my reluctant though very capable hiking buddy and I clocked close to 50 km (each) of hiking over the past week.  We have certainly already worked off the smoked meat sandwiches that we are going to devour in Montreal tomorrow.  We are having the BEST time - almost makes turning 40 worth it!

Segue into Saguenay

We took a tour into Saguenay this morning for a sunrise hike on a trail of three lakes (Lac Lecompte, Lac Cruchon and Lac Ayette) and supply restocking.  We thought we’d stop at a microbrewery for a beverage to accompany the homemade Jos Louis we found but it wasn’t exactly what we were expecting.  Back to the woods after lunch for our last night of comfort before moving on tomorrow.
