We finally got into our bee yard today to do inspections, add honey supers, and treat for mites in advance of the queens beginning to lay their winter bees. All is well. We are queenright and laying down baby bees and honey in all hives. Brood boxes are looking good. No stings. Happy bees, happy beekeeper.
Speaking of beekeepers, Liam and I signed up to participate in this really neat performance art project on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 1:30-4:30pm called "Your Temper, My Weather". In a slow and mindful collective performance, Toronto artist Diane Borsato leads a procession of regional beekeepers in a walk from the Canadian Museum of Nature to the National Art Centre’s rooftop garden and apiary. ''Your Temper, My Weather'' "explores the beauty of many bodies moving deliberately and in unison, inspiring reflection on the health and temper of bees and on the policies and environmental conditions that so profoundly affect our shared future". It will involve a silent procession of a hundred beekeepers, in which we will be a part. If anyone wishes to join us, we have an extra bee suit! Sign up here.
