Our baskets this week include: snap peas, red and green cabbages, baby spinach, broccoli, a chinese cabbage, scallions, radishes, garlic scapes, kale, eggplant, arugula, red leaf lettuce, hot and sweet peppers, basil, apple mint, parsley, sage, oregano, dill, marjoram, microgreens, a dozen eggs, and special items - honey oat bread and a bottle of sweet mead made from our farm fresh honey.
It is also a week that marks a transition in the contents of our baskets. As the weather gets hotter and drier, this will be the final week for cool weather veggies like lettuce, radishes, spinach, arugula, chinese cabbage, broccoli, garlic scapes, and peas. Very soon we will be into beets, carrots, turnips, swiss chard, yellow beans, and zucchini - and hopefully tomatoes and cucumbers not too long after that!
After six weeks of greens, this change to root veggies is most welcome. And who doesn't love farm fresh tomatoes and cucumbers? Those are truly the taste of summer.
Happy Week #6 to our CSA families!
